Dehradun Tour Packages

Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, is a destination that surprises almost everyone who visits. Nestled in the broad, fertile Doon Valley between the Shivalik Hills and the foothills of the Greater Himalayas, Dehradun is often perceived merely as a transit point on the way to Mussoorie, Rishikesh, or the Char Dham pilgrimage. Discover the charm of Uttarakhand’s capital with our specially curated Dehradun Tour Packages, designed to offer a perfect mix of nature, spirituality, culture, and relaxation. Dehradun is a richly layered destination in its own right a city with a proud colonial heritage, remarkable natural wonders, important spiritual sites, world-class educational institutions, and an easy, pleasantly unhurried way of life that makes it deeply appealing to all kinds of travellers.

At an altitude of 640 metres, Dehradun enjoys one of the most enviable climates in North India warm summers, mild winters, and a refreshing hill-town quality of air that the plains can only dream of. The city is cosmopolitan yet grounded, modern yet deeply connected to its Himalayan roots. If you have spent time in Dehradun, you understand why so many people choose to live here and why so many travellers find themselves extending their planned one-night stopover into a full multi-day stay.

At Vayable Trip, our Dehradun tour packages are designed to help you discover the full depth and variety of this city from its natural cave systems and sulphur springs to its colonial landmarks, Buddhist monasteries, and forested wildlife reserves.

Why Visit Dehradun?

The question is almost easier to answer in reverse why wouldn't you? Dehradun offers a rare combination of nature, heritage, spirituality, and convenience that few Indian cities can match. It has no single iconic landmark that overshadows everything else; instead, it rewards explorers with a series of genuine, varied experiences spread across the city and its lush surrounding countryside.

Dehradun is also the ideal base for exploring some of Uttarakhand's finest destinations. Mussoorie is just 35 km uphill. Rishikesh is 45 km away. Haridwar is 55 km. The Valley of Flowers, Auli, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are all accessible via road from here. Many travellers use Dehradun as their arrival and departure hub and build an entire Uttarakhand itinerary around it — and our packages make that seamlessly easy.

Top Attractions in our Dehradun Holiday Packages

Robber's Cave (Gucchupani)

One of the most extraordinary natural formations in the Doon Valley, Robber's Cave locally called Gucchupani is a river cave system about 8 km from the city centre. A mountain stream flows through a narrow, winding gorge, disappearing underground in one place and reappearing in another. The walk through the cave involves wading through ankle-to-knee deep cold, clear water, and the experience of moving through the dim, cool cavern with sunlight filtering in from above is genuinely magical. The cave is said to have been a hideout for dacoits during the colonial era, lending it its evocative English name. It's one of those rare natural attractions that needs no embellishment it simply astounds.

Sahastradhara

Literally meaning "Thousand-Fold Spring," Sahastradhara is a complex of sulphur springs, waterfalls, and natural pools located about 14 km from Dehradun. The sulphur-rich water is believed to have medicinal properties for skin conditions and joint ailments, and locals have been visiting for generations for its therapeutic benefits. The streams cascade down terraced rock faces and collect in natural pools where visitors can soak and swim. The surrounding landscape of forested hills and limestone formations makes this one of the most visually distinctive natural attractions in the region.

Forest Research Institute (FRI)

A true architectural jewel of the colonial era, the Forest Research Institute is one of the most magnificent buildings in Uttarakhand. Constructed in 1929 in a hybrid Greek-Roman-Colonial style, the FRI is set in an enormous campus of 450 hectares filled with forests, deer parks, and botanical gardens. The main building's massive colonnaded facade, sweeping lawns, and imposing grandeur make it one of the most photogenic landmarks in all of northern India. Inside, six fascinating museums cover the history of Indian forests, timber science, silviculture, and wildlife conservation — genuinely interesting even for non-specialists. The FRI is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, architects, photographers, and anyone who appreciates great buildings.

Tapkeshwar Temple

One of the most unusually situated temples in India, Tapkeshwar is a Shiva temple built inside a natural limestone cave on the banks of the Tons River, about 7 km from the city centre. The cave ceiling drips natural water onto a Shivalinga below a phenomenon that gives the temple its name (tapak means "to drip"). The cave setting, the sound of flowing water, the flickering oil lamps, and the scent of incense create an atmosphere of profound spiritual intensity. On Mahashivratri, thousands of devotees gather here, transforming the site into a deeply moving experience of collective devotion.

Mindrolling Monastery

Established in 1965 and one of the largest Buddhist institutes in India, the Mindrolling Monastery is a place of exceptional beauty and serenity. The complex includes a 60-metre tall stupa one of the tallest in the world embellished with intricate murals and golden Buddha statues. The monastery grounds are immaculately maintained, with gardens, prayer halls, a meditation centre, and a museum of Buddhist art and artefacts. Visitors of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome. The atmosphere here is deeply peaceful, and many travellers find it one of the most spiritually nourishing stops on their Dehradun itinerary.

Malsi Deer Park

Located at the foot of the Shivalik Hills about 10 km from the city, Malsi Deer Park is a small zoo and nature reserve popular with families, particularly those with young children. The park houses spotted deer, barking deer, peacocks, two-horned rhinoceros, tigers, and various Himalayan birds. Surrounded by forested hills, it makes for a pleasant morning outing and an excellent introduction to Himalayan wildlife for children.

Lacchiwala Nature Park

A beautifully maintained picnic spot and nature park about 22 km from Dehradun on the Rishikesh road, Lacchiwala is set along the sparkling Song River. The park has natural swimming pools, picnic areas, children's play zones, and a small eco-tourism centre. The drive along the Song River to reach Lacchiwala is itself beautiful, passing through lush sal forests teeming with birdlife.

Rajaji National Park

Stretching across 820 sq km of the Shivalik foothills, Rajaji National Park is one of Uttarakhand's most significant wildlife reserves and one of India's best-kept secrets. The park is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gharial crocodiles, king cobras, and over 315 species of birds. Jeep safaris into the park from the Ramnagar or Chilla zones offer the genuine thrill of wildlife encounters in their natural habitat, without the overwhelming tourist crowds of more famous parks. A Rajaji safari makes an exceptional half-day or full-day excursion from Dehradun.

Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar)

The heart of Dehradun's city life, the six-faced Clock Tower at Paltan Bazaar is the traditional meeting point for locals and the gateway to the city's most vibrant market area. The surrounding lanes are filled with shops selling Dehradun's famous basmati rice, litchi wine, jaggery, and local handicrafts. An evening stroll through Paltan Bazaar gives you a vivid, sensory taste of Doon Valley's culture.

Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology Museum

An often-overlooked gem, the museum at the Wadia Institute offers a fascinating insight into the geological history of the Himalayas, with an impressive collection of rocks, minerals, fossils, and maps. It's a genuinely interesting visit for the scientifically curious.

Best Time to Visit Dehradun

Winter (October to March): Arguably the best time to visit Dehradun. Temperatures are cool and comfortable (averaging 5°C to 20°C), skies are clear, and the Himalayan peaks are visible from various viewpoints around the valley. This is also the best time for wildlife safaris in Rajaji National Park.

Summer (April to June): Dehradun's altitude keeps it significantly cooler than the plains, making it a pleasant summer destination. Temperatures typically range from 20°C to 35°C warm but manageable, with cool evenings. It's the peak season, particularly for families escaping the plains heat.

Monsoon (July to September): The city receives moderate to heavy rainfall during the monsoon, and the surrounding hills and forests turn a rich, vivid green. Road travel can occasionally be disrupted by landslides in the hills, but Dehradun city itself remains largely unaffected. Robber's Cave and Sahastradhara are particularly beautiful during this period.
