Munnar Tour Packages

There are hill stations, and then there is Munnar. Nestled in the Western Ghats of Kerala at an altitude of 1,600 metres, Munnar is one of South India's most breathtaking destinations a vast, rolling landscape of tea plantations that cover every hillside in a carpet of brilliant green, punctuated by mist-draped valleys, cascading waterfalls, mountain streams, and the occasional flash of an endemic bird or a Nilgiri tahr bounding across a ridge. Whether you are planning a romantic honeymoon, a fun-filled family vacation, or a peaceful solo retreat, our expertly curated Munnar tour packages promise an unforgettable escape from the ordinary.

Munnar sits at the confluence of three mountain streams the Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala and was developed as a hill resort and plantation headquarters by the British in the late 19th century. The legacy of that colonial era lives on in the well-maintained tea estates, the bungalow-style plantation accommodation, the small stone churches, and the general sense of order and greenness that distinguishes Munnar from more chaotic Indian destinations. Today, Munnar draws visitors from across India and the world who come seeking the unique combination of natural beauty, cool climate, wildlife encounters, and the deeply satisfying experience of watching the world's finest tea being grown and processed.

At Vayable Trip, our Munnar tour packages are crafted to give you the complete Munnar experience from the iconic viewpoints and wildlife sanctuaries to the hidden waterfalls, plantation walks, and quiet forest paths that reveal the deeper character of this extraordinary landscape.

Why Munnar is South India's Finest Hill Destination

Munnar occupies a unique position in India's travel imagination. It is the hill station of the south the destination that Kerala's coastal heat-weary residents and summer-seeking tourists from across the country return to year after year. But it is far more than simply a cool escape from the plains. The landscape here is genuinely extraordinary a scale of green, layered tea cultivation that has transformed the Western Ghats into something that looks designed but is in fact the result of over a century of careful agricultural practice integrated with remarkable natural scenery.

The wildlife of the Munnar region is equally remarkable. The Eravikulam National Park, adjacent to Munnar, is the last stronghold of the Nilgiri tahr a rare mountain ungulate found only in the southern Western Ghats and is one of the finest wildlife parks in Kerala. The forests around Munnar harbour elephants, leopards, Nilgiri langurs, lion-tailed macaques, and an extraordinary diversity of birds including endemic species found nowhere else on earth. Munnar is also home to Neelakurinji a rare shrub that carpets the entire hillside in blue-purple flowers once every twelve years, a botanical event of international significance.

Top Attractions in Our Munnar Tour Packages

Tea Museum (KDHP Tea Museum)

The Kannan Devan Hills Plantations (KDHP) Tea Museum, located in the heart of Munnar's plantation district, is the finest introduction to the world of Munnar's tea that any visitor can have. The museum traces the history of tea cultivation in the Munnar region from the arrival of the British planters in the 1870s through to the present day, with exhibits covering the cultivation, processing, and grading of tea. Restored vintage tea-processing machinery, period photographs, and archival materials bring the plantation era to life in vivid detail. A guided factory tour of the working tea processing facility adjacent to the museum where you can watch the withering, rolling, fermentation, and drying of tea leaves is an extraordinary sensory experience. The museum shop sells some of the finest Munnar teas directly, making this also the best place to purchase authentic tea souvenirs.

Eravikulam National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site buffer zone and one of the finest wildlife parks in the Western Ghats, Eravikulam National Park covers 97 sq km of rolling shola grassland and montane forest above 1,800 metres. The park is the primary refuge of the Nilgiri tahr a stocky, sure-footed mountain goat endemic to the southern Western Ghats and the Rajamala area of the park (accessible by a short jeep or bus ride from the park entrance) offers outstanding close-up encounters with these extraordinary animals, which have become remarkably habituated to respectful human presence. The park also harbours elephants, leopards, sambar, gaur, Nilgiri langur, lion-tailed macaque, and a wealth of endemic birds. The shola-grassland landscape of Eravikulam is extraordinarily beautiful rolling open meadows above the tree line, with montane forest in the valleys and panoramic views of the surrounding Western Ghats.

Top Station

At approximately 1,880 metres, Top Station is the highest point in Munnar accessible by road and one of the finest viewpoints in the Western Ghats. On clear days (particularly between September and March), the views from Top Station extend across the mountains of the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, with layers of blue hills fading into the distance and the tea estates below looking like a green quilt draped over the mountain contours. Top Station was originally the upper terminus of a narrow-gauge railway used to transport tea from the estates to the plains — the railway is long gone, but the name and the extraordinary view remain.

Mattupetty Dam & Lake

About 13 km from Munnar town, Mattupetty Dam holds back a beautiful reservoir at 1,700 metres, surrounded by tea estates and shola forest. Boating on the lake with the forested hills reflected in the still water and occasional elephants visible on the lakeside meadows is a peaceful and visually rewarding experience. The Mattupetty area is also known for its Indo-Swiss Livestock Research Station, where visitors can see the renowned Mattupetty dairy cattle, a cross between Indian zebu and Swiss Brown cattle that produce some of the finest milk in the region.

Echo Point

A striking natural acoustic phenomenon near Mattupetty Lake, Echo Point is a spot where your voice rebounds distinctly off the surrounding hillsides entertaining and memorable, particularly for children. The setting, on the shore of a calm mountain lake surrounded by forest and tea estates, is beautiful regardless of the acoustic novelty.

Anamudi Peak (Viewpoint)

At 2,695 metres, Anamudi is the highest peak in South India a massive, dome-shaped summit that dominates the skyline above Eravikulam. The peak itself is within the restricted core zone of the national park and is not open for public trekking, but the view of Anamudi from multiple points around Munnar and within the Rajamala section of the park is magnificent. On clear mornings, the great mountain glows gold in the first light a sight of genuine grandeur.

Kundala Lake

A beautiful dam lake approximately 20 km from Munnar on the road to Top Station, Kundala Lake is less visited than Mattupetty but equally scenic. The lake is surrounded by tea estates that come right to the water's edge, and shikara (boat) rides on the calm water offer a wonderfully peaceful way to absorb the landscape. The drive along the Kundala Lake road, winding through tunnels of overhanging tea bushes, is one of Munnar's finest scenic experiences.

Attukal Waterfalls

A beautiful cascade about 9 km from Munnar town on the Pallivasal Road, Attukal Falls plunges through a series of smooth granite boulders into a pool below, surrounded by tea estates and forest. It is less crowded than some of the more famous waterfalls in the region and makes for a pleasant half-hour stop on the way to or from other sightseeing.

Lakkam Waterfalls

Set within the Eravikulam National Park buffer zone, Lakkam is a dramatic waterfall accessible via a short trek through shola forest making it one of the most beautifully situated falls in the Munnar region. The walk to the falls passes through stunning montane forest with excellent birding opportunities.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Located about 60 km from Munnar on the eastern (dry) side of the Western Ghats, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a dramatically different landscape from the lush tea country a dry deciduous forest reserve on the Rajasthan-like slopes descending toward Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is one of the best places in Kerala to see the endangered grizzled giant squirrel and the star tortoise, as well as elephants, leopards, and crocodiles in the Chinnar River. A half-day or full-day excursion to Chinnar adds a completely different dimension to any Munnar package.

Blossom Hydel Park & Pothamedu Viewpoint

The Blossom Hydel Park near Munnar town is a well-maintained garden with a pleasant walk through flower beds and spice plants, popular with families. The Pothamedu Viewpoint, about 6 km from town, is one of the finest accessible views of Munnar's tea, coffee, and cardamom plantation landscape a rolling patchwork of different shades of green that is endlessly photogenic at any time of day.

Tea Plantation Walks

Perhaps the most distinctive and memorable experience Munnar offers is the simplest a walk through the tea estates themselves, along the narrow paths between the precisely spaced rows of tea bushes, with pickers in colourful saris moving gracefully through the rows. The quality of light in the tea estates filtered through layers of green at every time of day is extraordinary, and the rhythmic beauty of the plantation landscape rewards both the photographer and the simply observant walker. Our packages include guided plantation walks with explanations of the tea cultivation and harvesting process.

Munnar is not just about tea gardens and scenic views it's also a paradise for adventure enthusiasts. The region offers exciting outdoor experiences amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Western Ghats.

Best Time to Visit Munnar

Winter (October to March): The finest season for Munnar. The post-monsoon months from October bring crystal-clear skies, excellent wildlife visibility in Eravikulam, and temperatures that are cool and refreshing (8°C to 22°C). December and January are the coldest months, with early mornings occasionally misty. Strongly recommended.

Spring (April to June): A very popular season, particularly from April to mid-June before the monsoon arrives. The weather is pleasant, the Nilgiri tahr can be seen at Eravikulam, and the landscape is green and lush from the light pre-monsoon showers. Top Station and the viewpoints offer excellent visibility in April.

Monsoon (June to September): Munnar receives heavy monsoon rainfall the Western Ghats are one of the wettest zones in India. The landscape transforms into a vivid, almost surreally green vista, waterfalls appear on every hillside, and the mist and cloud create a dramatic, atmospheric quality. Road travel can occasionally be disrupted by landslides. Eravikulam National Park is closed during the monsoon. Best suited to travellers who love lush, dramatic scenery and don't mind occasional rain.

Neelakurinji Season: Munnar's Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthianus) blooms once every twelve years the last major bloom was in 2018, and the next is expected around 2030. If planning travel around this extraordinary botanical event, contact our team for the most current information.
