Why Auli Stands Apart
Auli occupies a unique position in India's travel landscape. It is one of very few destinations in the country that can genuinely claim world-class status in its primary offering. The skiing slopes here were developed with technical expertise by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) and meet international standards for both safety and slope quality. The Indian Army uses Auli for high-altitude skiing training. International skiing competitions have been held here. And yet the destination retains a wonderful sense of space, quiet, and natural integrity that makes every visit feel like a discovery.
The mountain backdrop at Auli is, without question, one of its greatest assets. From the ski slopes and the top cable car station, you are surrounded on almost every side by Himalayan giants a wall of snow and rock and sky that is simultaneously humbling and exhilarating. On clear winter mornings, when the snow is fresh and the sky is a deep, impossible blue, Auli is one of the most beautiful places in India.
The Joshimath area below Auli is also of significant historical and religious importance it is the winter seat of the Badrinath deity, home to one of Adi Shankaracharya's four Mathams (monasteries), and the gateway to the Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, and Valley of Flowers pilgrimage routes.

The trekking conditions are perfect clear skies, vivid autumn colours in the oak forests, cool temperatures (3°C to 18°C), and the first hints of early snowfall on the higher peaks.
