Bangalore to Ooty and Kodaikanal is a genuinely popular road trip route, and for good reason, both hill stations are reachable in a single, well-paced week without the long-haul flights or trains that a lot of other Indian hill destinations require. The challenge is that most people either rush it into an exhausting long weekend or don't sequence the drive sensibly, and end up spending more time in the car than actually enjoying either destination. Our Ooty Kodaikanal tour package from Bangalore is built specifically to avoid both problems.
The route runs south from Bangalore through Mysore, which we use as a natural overnight break rather than a rushed pass-through the roughly three-hour drive from Bangalore to Mysore is comfortable enough to allow a relaxed first day, and it sets up a much shorter, more scenic climb into Ooty the next morning through Bandipur National Park and the Nilgiri foothills. Ooty then gets two full days, covering the lake, the botanical garden, Doddabetta Peak and a Coonoor detour for the quieter tea country viewpoints most first-time visitors miss.
From Ooty, the drive to Kodaikanal is long by any measure, so we treat the transit day exactly as that travel, with a proper lunch break and no forced sightseeing stops along the way. Kodaikanal gets its own two full days: Kodai Lake, Coaker's Walk, Pillar Rocks, Guna Caves and Bryant Park, giving the Palani hills roughly the same depth of coverage as the Nilgiris rather than treating it as an afterthought tacked onto an Ooty trip.
The return to Bangalore is where a lot of self-driven trips fall apart from sheer exhaustion, so we route it back via Coimbatore rather than retracing the exact outbound path, which shaves meaningful time off the last day. Six days is enough to cover both hill stations properly, with two comfortable transit days built in rather than squeezed out this is a package for people who want to actually experience Ooty and Kodaikanal, not just survive the drive between them.

Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - Bangalore to Mysore
Arrival Day
Day 1 - Bangalore to Mysore
Arrival DayA relatively easy start the drive to Mysore takes about three hours, so there's no need for a painfully early pickup. Depending on arrival time, the afternoon can be used for a quick visit to Mysore Palace or simply resting up before the following day's longer drive into the Nilgiris. Overnight stay in Mysore.
Day 2 - Mysore to Ooty via Bandipur
Day 2 - Mysore to Ooty via Bandipur
An early departure to catch Bandipur National Park at its most active the drive through the forest takes under an hour, but we go slow through this stretch since it's genuinely one of the better parts of the whole route, with a real chance of spotting elephants, deer or gaur along the way.
Past Gudalur, the road climbs into the Nilgiris, and you'll reach Ooty by early afternoon with time left for a relaxed walk around Ooty Lake. Overnight stay in Ooty.
Day 3 - Ooty and Coonoor Sightseeing
Day 3 - Ooty and Coonoor Sightseeing
Doddabetta Peak first thing in the morning, followed by the Rose Garden, Botanical Garden and a tea estate visit with tasting. In the afternoon, a short drive to Coonoor covers Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose, two viewpoints that show off the Nilgiri escarpment from an angle most Ooty-only itineraries never see. Overnight stay in Ooty.
Day 4 - Ooty to Kodaikanal
Day 4 - Ooty to Kodaikanal
A long transit day, six to seven hours via Coimbatore and Palani, treated purely as travel rather than forced into a sightseeing schedule. We build in a proper lunch stop and keep the pace comfortable rather than rushed. By evening you'll be settled into your Kodaikanal hotel. Overnight stay in Kodaikanal.
Day 5 - Kodaikanal Sightseeing
Day 5 - Kodaikanal Sightseeing
Morning starts at Kodai Lake for boating or cycling, followed by Coaker's Walk for the valley views and Bryant Park nearby. In the afternoon, Pillar Rocks and Guna Caves round off the day, with a stop at Kodaikanal's Dolphin's Nose viewpoint if time and weather cooperate. Overnight stay in Kodaikanal.
Day 6 - Kodaikanal to Bangalore via Coimbatore
Day 6 - Kodaikanal to Bangalore via Coimbatore
An early checkout for the long drive back, routed through Coimbatore rather than retracing the outbound path, which keeps the final leg shorter than it would otherwise be. We build in one comfortable lunch stop en route. Depending on your preferred arrival time, we can either push through to Bangalore the same evening or arrange a late drop-off, whichever suits the group better.
