There's a certain kind of trip that doesn't just fill your camera roll, it rewires something inside you. The Leh Ladakh tour from Srinagar is exactly that kind of journey. This isn't a quick flyover to Pangong Tso for the Instagram photo (though you'll get that too). This is a slow, deliberate drive through two of India's most extraordinary landscapes, the soft green valleys of Kashmir and the dramatic high-altitude desert of Ladakh, stitched together by some of the most thrilling mountain roads on earth.
The route starts in Srinagar, where a shikara ride on Dal Lake and the warm scent of Kehwa tea ease you in gently. Then, as you push east and cross Zoji La Pass, the world changes completely. The lush pine forests vanish, replaced by soaring ochre ridges, turquoise rivers, and a silence so deep it feels almost spiritual. By the time you reach Kargil and the moonscape of the upper Indus Valley, you already know this trip is different.
Over 11 days, this itinerary takes you through the greatest hits, the ancient gompas of Lamayuru and Hemis, the adrenaline of Khardung La, the golden dunes and Bactrian camels of Nubra Valley, and then pushes further into places most travellers never reach. The Changthang Plateau, Tso Moriri, Tsokar: the less-travelled half of Ladakh that rewards the curious with an intimacy that Pangong (for all its beauty) can no longer offer.
Speaking of Pangong, yes, it's in here too. And rightly so. A night camped on the banks of that electric-blue lake at 4,350 metres, under a sky that looks hand-painted, is not something you should ever skip. The drive back through Chang La at dawn, with frost on the windshield and the valley glowing below, tends to stay with people long after the trip ends.
This package is built for travellers who want the full Ladakh experience, the landscapes, the culture, the solitude, and the road. Whether you're a first-timer making sense of it all for the first time or someone who visited years ago and wants to go deeper, this itinerary covers the ground worth covering. Come with good boots, a warm layer you can't leave behind, and enough room in your bag for things you didn't know you needed to bring home.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Srinagar Arrival- The Journey Begins

Arrival Day
Your Leh Ladakh adventure starts where the valley breathes, Srinagar. Arrive, check in to your hotel, and let the Dal Lake set the mood. In the evening, take a slow shikara ride across the lake as the Himalayas turn golden in the distance. Tonight is for acclimatisation, so skip the rush. Enjoy a hot Kehwa tea, a warm dinner, and rest well, the real mountains are waiting.

Day 2 - Srinagar – Sonamarg (87 km | ~2.5 hrs)

After a hearty breakfast, hit the road towards Sonamarg, the meadow of gold. The drive itself is one of the most scenic in Kashmir, hugging the Sindh River through pine-draped valleys. Spend the afternoon exploring Thajiwas Glacier by pony or on foot. The air here is thin and fresh, and the snow-capped peaks feel close enough to touch. Overnight stay in Sonamarg.

Day 3 - Sonamarg – Kargil via Zoji La Pass

This is the day the terrain shifts dramatically. Cross the formidable Zoji La Pass (3,528 m), one of the most thrilling mountain passes in India, and watch as the lush green valleys of Kashmir give way to the stark, moon-like landscape of Ladakh. Stop at Drass, the second coldest inhabited place on earth, and pause at the Kargil War Memorial to pay your respects. Reach Kargil by evening and check in for the night.

Day 4 - Kargil – Mulbekh – Lamayuru

An epic driving day with some incredible pit stops. Begin with the ancient Mulbekh Monastery and its enormous rock-carved Maitreya Buddha. Then onward to Lamayuru, Ladakh's oldest monastery, perched dramatically on a crumbling hilltop, this one genuinely stops you in your tracks. Negotiate the Fotu La and Namika La passes before descending into the Indus Valley and arriving in Leh by evening. Check in, have dinner, and take it easy.

Day 5 - Leh Local Sightseeing- City & Surroundings

Today is Leh's day. Start with Shanti Stupa at sunrise if you can manage it, the panoramic view over the city is worth the early alarm. Then explore Leh Palace, Leh Market, and the 15th-century Tsemo Gompa. In the afternoon, drive out to Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery, where the 12-storey gompa complex resembles a mini Potala Palace. Round off the day at the serene Hemis Monastery. Overnight in Leh.

Day 6 - Leh – Khardung La – Nubra Valley

Buckle up, today you cross Khardung La (5,359 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The views from the top are something you'll struggle to put into words. Descend into the breathtaking Nubra Valley and check in to your camp. In the afternoon, head to the Hunder sand dunes and look for the rare double-humped Bactrian camels. The golden dunes set against snow peaks at sunset, that's the shot everyone's after. Overnight in a riverside camp.

Day 7 - Nubra Valley – Diskit Monastery – Return to Leh

Start the morning with a visit to Diskit Monastery and the giant Maitreya Buddha statue that gazes across the Nubra Valley. Spend a quiet hour exploring the monastery before beginning your return to Leh via Khardung La again, the second crossing always feels like an old friend. Back in Leh by evening. Overnight in Leh.

Day 8 - Leh – Pangong Tso Lake

Today's drive to Pangong Tso via Chang La Pass (5,360 m) is nothing short of spectacular. As you descend to the lake, that first glimpse of the electric blue water against ochre mountains hits like nothing else. Spend the afternoon lakeside,Pangong Tso – Tso Moriri the colour actually changes through the day, shifting from cobalt blue to turquoise to silver as the light moves. Overnight in a lakeside camp for the most memorable stargazing of your life.

Day 9 - Pangong Tso – Tso Moriri

Most travellers skip this route, you shouldn't. The road from Pangong to Tso Moriri via Chushul and Mahe Bridge takes you through the wild Changthang Plateau, where you might spot Kiang (wild ass), Tibetan wolves, and massive herds of Pashmina goats. Tso Moriri is quieter, less photographed, and arguably more beautiful than Pangong. Check in to your camp on the lakeside as the sun dips. Overnight at Tso Moriri.

Day 10 - Tso Moriri – Tsokar – Leh

Morning at Tso Moriri is a gift enough, the silence, the birds, the reflection of the mountains on the water. Drive back towards Leh via the salt lake of Tsokar, another hidden gem of the Changthang. Arrive in Leh by late afternoon. Use the evening to explore the market, pick up your Pashmina shawls, thangka paintings, and prayer wheels. Last night in Leh.

Day 11 - Leh Departure- Until Next Time

Your last Ladakhi sunrise. Breakfast, final packing, and transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey. The mountains won't say goodbye, they'll just quietly wait for you to return.
