Faq's

1. Is there hot water available?

Ans. Yes. Since there is no running hot water grid, staff provide hot water in buckets every morning.

2. Are meals included in the stay?

Ans. Yes, bookings are generally under the MAP plan, which includes hot vegetarian buffet breakfast and dinner.

3. Can I camp right next to Chandra Taal Lake?

Ans. No. To protect the ecology, all commercial camping is banned within 3 km of the lake. Sakya Camp is located in the official camping zone, a 10-minute drive from the lake parking lot.

4. Is the road safe for small cars?

Ans. The stretch from Gramphu to Batal and up to the camp is a rugged, unpaved dirt track with water crossings (nalas). High-clearance vehicles or 4x4s are highly recommended.

5. How cold does it get at night?

Ans. Even in peak summer (June–August), nighttime temperatures routinely plunge between 5°C and -5°C. Heavy woolens and windproof layers are mandatory.

6. What about altitude sickness (AMS)?

Ans. The camp sits at 14,000 feet. You must acclimatize by spending at least 1–2 nights at a lower altitude (like Manali or Kaza) before sleeping here. Carry supplemental oxygen or Diamox if prescribed by a doctor.
