Wayanad tends to get overshadowed by Munnar in most Kerala conversations, but anyone who has actually spent a few days here will tell you it deserves its own trip entirely. This is Kerala's wildest hill district thick forest cover, working spice and coffee plantations, ancient caves with prehistoric rock carvings, and a wildlife sanctuary that genuinely delivers sightings, all spread across a plateau that stays green even in the peak of summer. Our Wayanad tour package is built for travellers who want their hill-station holiday with a bit more wilderness in it.
Over four days, the itinerary moves through Wayanad's best-known landmarks without rushing between them. There's Chembra Peak and its heart-shaped lake for those who want a proper trek, the Edakkal Caves with rock engravings believed to date back thousands of years, and the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, set against a backdrop of forested hills. Waterfalls are a running theme throughout the trip, Soochipara and Meenmutty both involve short, rewarding walks through forest trails to reach cascades that are genuinely worth the effort.
A safari through the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the larger Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, is one of the itinerary's highlights, with reasonable chances of spotting elephants, deer, and a wide variety of birdlife depending on the season. The trip also builds in time at a spice and coffee plantation, and a stop at a tribal heritage museum that offers real insight into the indigenous communities who have called this region home for generations.

Whether you're travelling with family, planning a weekend escape with friends, or looking for a slower alternative to the more touristy hill stations, this Wayanad hill station tour package is designed to be comfortable and unhurried. Vayable Trip takes care of stays, private transfers, and safari bookings, so you can spend your four days actually being in the forest rather than organising how to get there.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Wayanad & Chembra Peak Area

Arrival Day
Arrive in Wayanad, most guests come in via Kozhikode or Kannur airport, roughly two to three hours away and check into your resort by early afternoon. The property itself is usually surrounded by plantation greenery, so there's little reason to rush the first evening. Once settled, head to the base of Chembra Peak for a short evening walk (a full ascent to the peak's heart-shaped lake requires a forest-department permit and a longer trek, which we can arrange in advance if you'd like to attempt it the next morning instead). Otherwise, spend the evening at Meenmutty Falls, a short walk from the road through light forest cover, ending the day with the sound of water rather than traffic.

Day 2 - Edakkal Caves & Banasura Sagar Dam

Start the day at the Edakkal Caves, a short trek up a rocky hillside to reach ancient rock carvings believed to be among the earliest evidence of human settlement in South India. It's a moderately steep climb, so comfortable shoes are worth packing. In the afternoon, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, India's largest earthen dam, where a short boat ride or a walk along the reservoir's edge offers wide views over the surrounding hills. If time allows, a quick stop at the nearby Chain Tree, wrapped in local legend, makes for an interesting detour.

Day 3 - Wildlife Safari, Pookode Lake & Spice Plantation

Wake up early for a jeep safari through the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary mornings offer the best chance of spotting elephants, gaur, deer, and if you're lucky, one of the resident tigers, along with a healthy variety of birdlife. After breakfast, visit Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by dense forest, followed by a guided walk through a working spice plantation where you'll see coffee, pepper, cardamom, and vanilla growing together. The afternoon can also include a stop at a tribal heritage museum, which offers a genuinely informative look at Wayanad's indigenous communities and their traditions.

Day 4 - Soochipara Falls & Departure

Spend the morning at Soochipara Falls, one of Wayanad's most striking three-tiered waterfalls, reached via a short forest walk, swimming is often possible in the designated pool area, weather permitting. After lunch, check out and transfer to Kozhikode or Kannur airport for your onward journey, taking with you a very different, wilder side of Kerala.
