Of all the routes into Ooty, the one from Mysore is arguably the most rewarding for the drive alone. You're on the road for barely two and a half hours, but a good chunk of it cuts straight through Bandipur National Park, where it isn't unusual to spot spotted deer, wild elephants or the occasional gaur grazing just off the highway. Most Ooty tour packages treat the journey as a formality; this one treats it as part of the experience.
Our Ooty tour package from Mysore is built for travellers who want a proper short break without the logistics headache of a longer Nilgiris circuit. Day one is entirely about the drive and settling into Ooty by early afternoon, leaving enough daylight for a relaxed walk around Ooty Lake or the Government Botanical Garden. Day two is where the town itself opens up, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway's toy train, if you time it right, the Rose Garden, Doddabetta Peak for the highest viewpoint in the Nilgiris, and enough tea estate stops that you'll leave with more than one tin of fresh Nilgiri tea in your bag. We keep day two flexible enough that you can trade a stop or two for extra time wherever you're enjoying yourself most.
What we've learned running this Mysore to Ooty tour package repeatedly is that the return leg matters just as much as the arrival. Most travellers try to cram in a stop or two on the way back and end up exhausted by the time they hit Mysore traffic in the evening. We build the return on day three as a slower morning, one last walk, a leisurely breakfast, maybe a quick detour to Coonoor's viewpoints if the group's up for it, before the drive back through Bandipur, timed so you're not fighting evening safari traffic through the park.
This Ooty Tour Package from Mysore suits first-time visitors to the Nilgiris just as well as Mysore residents looking for a quick weekend escape. Everything from the vehicle to the hotel is chosen with the short duration in mind, nothing that eats into your actual time in Ooty, and a route through Bandipur that turns transit time into part of the holiday rather than dead time between two cities.

Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - Mysore to Ooty via Bandipur
Arrival Day
Day 1 - Mysore to Ooty via Bandipur
Arrival DayWe start early, around 7 AM, mainly because Bandipur National Park is at its liveliest in the first couple of hours after sunrise animals tend to move closer to the road before the day heats up. The drive through the park takes under an hour but we go slow through this stretch deliberately; sightings aren't guaranteed, but the forest itself, with its dry deciduous cover thinning into the Nilgiri slopes, is worth the unhurried pace.
Past Gudalur, the road begins its climb into the Nilgiris proper, and the temperature drop is noticeable within twenty minutes. You'll reach Ooty by early afternoon, check into your hotel, and have the rest of the day free most guests choose a gentle walk around Ooty Lake or the Botanical Garden to shake off the drive. Overnight stay in Ooty.
Day 2 - Ooty Sightseeing
Day 2 - Ooty Sightseeing
This is the full sightseeing day and we've deliberately not overpacked it. Morning starts at Doddabetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiris, best visited early before cloud cover rolls in and blocks the view. From there it's the Rose Garden, one of the largest of its kind in India, followed by a stop at a working tea estate where you can see the leaves go from plucking to packaging and pick up tea directly at estate prices.
Afternoon is kept open for either the toy train ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (subject to seat availability, which we check in advance) or a visit to the Government Botanical Garden if you skipped it the day before. Evenings in Ooty are genuinely cold even outside winter, so we recommend keeping this slot for a slow walk through the town's market lanes rather than another long drive. Overnight stay in Ooty.
Day 3 - Ooty to Mysore, with an optional Coonoor detour
Day 3 - Ooty to Mysore, with an optional Coonoor detour
Check-out is kept relaxed on the last day no early alarm needed. If your group has the energy, we can route the return through Coonoor's viewpoints, particularly Lamb's Rock and Dolphin's Nose, which add roughly ninety minutes but give you a very different, more dramatic view of the Nilgiri slopes than anything visible from Ooty town.
From there, we head back down through Gudalur and Bandipur, timing the drive so you clear the park before the afternoon heat sets in and before evening traffic builds up closer to Mysore. You'll be dropped back in Mysore by early evening, in time for dinner or an onward journey.
