Hampi has been Bangalore's favourite weekend disappearing act for years, and for good reason it is one of the few places within striking distance of the city that genuinely feels like a different world the moment you arrive. This two-day, one-night package is built around the overnight drive or bus most Bangalore travellers already prefer, getting you onto the boulders by sunrise on day one and back on the road home by the end of day two, without feeling like you have rushed through any of it.

We have deliberately kept this itinerary tight rather than thin it covers the temples and ruins that actually matter, in an order that avoids backtracking and the worst of the midday heat. Virupaksha Temple and the bazaar in the early morning, the Vittala Temple complex and its stone chariot before the tour groups arrive, the Lotus Mahal and Elephant Stables in the late afternoon, and a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra to close out the first day with the river at its most golden.

A comfortable hotel near Hampi Bazaar or along the riverside is included for the one night, and a private vehicle with a knowledgeable local guide handles all the sightseeing, so the only thing you need to plan is what time to leave Bangalore. Most travellers either drive overnight on Friday to arrive fresh on Saturday morning, or take an early morning departure to maximise daylight either way, this is the itinerary that has made Hampi the standard answer to “where should we go this weekend” for Bangalore travellers who don't want to spend their whole trip in the car.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Bangalore to Hampi & Major Sightseeing

Arrival Day
Depart Bangalore overnight (recommended departure between 9 and 10 pm) for the roughly 6 to 7 hour drive to Hampi, arriving early morning. Freshen up at your hotel and head straight out while the day is still cool. Begin at Virupaksha Temple and walk through Hampi Bazaar, then move on to the Vittala Temple complex to see the stone chariot and musical pillars before the crowds build up. After lunch and a short rest, visit the Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables and the Royal Enclosure. In the evening, take a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra River, followed by sunset at Matanga Hill or Hemakuta Hill. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2 - Anegundi & Return to Bangalore

After breakfast, cross the river to Anegundi for a quieter look at the region, the Pampa Sarovar lake and, for those with time, the climb up Anjanadri Hill, said to be Hanuman's birthplace. Check out of your hotel by early afternoon and begin the drive back to Bangalore, arriving by late evening, tired in the good way and with a phone full of boulder photos
