Gokarna has always lived a double life, it is one of Karnataka's most important Shaiva pilgrimage towns, home to the Mahabaleshwar Temple believed to house a fragment of Shiva's original lingam, and at the same time it is the laid-back, cliff-fringed beach town that backpackers have quietly favoured over Goa for years.
This Gokarna Tour Package is built to honour both sides of the town rather than pick one, opening with the temple and its old town lanes before settling into the slower rhythm of beach hopping that Gokarna is best known for.
The coastline here is shaped into a series of small, distinct coves separated by rocky headlands, and the only real way to see them properly is on foot or by boat, Kudle Beach, wide and easy-going; Om Beach, shaped, as the name suggests, like the sacred symbol and the most popular for water sports; and further along, Half Moon and Paradise Beach, both reachable only by a coastal trek or a short boat ride, and both considerably quieter for it.
This itinerary includes a guided cliff trek connecting these beaches, timed so you are walking in the cooler part of the day and arriving at each cove with enough daylight left to actually enjoy it.
Accommodation is arranged either in Gokarna town, close to the temple and main market, or in a beach-facing property near Kudle or Om Beach, depending on preference. A short boat ride to view dolphins, weather and season permitting, is built into the second day, along with a sunset session at one of the cliff viewpoints overlooking Om Beach routinely ranked among the best sunset spots on India's west coast. Best visited between October and March, when the sea is calm and the coastal trails are dry and easy underfoot.
