Though there may be some geographical similarities between Dalhousie and Dharamshala, the two hill stations are as diverse as can be. Morphologically, the two cities are structured and oriented in complete contrast to one another. Thus, it would be interesting to go to both of them at one go, especially when most of the itineraries of Himachal would cover Dharamshala or Dalhousie one at a time.
Built on and along a hill, Dharamshala can be understood as two towns folded on top of one another. While the lower town has the markets, the government offices, and a well-known cricket stadium where the outfield is a part of the mountains, the upper town is McLeod Ganj, which has a totally different vibe. An identifiable community has lived there for decades, and it happens to be the Tibetan community.
You can sense it all around the Namgyal Monastery, as well as in the street food, bookshops, and the general energy of the place. Truthfully, most people rush the Dalai Lama's temple and miss what makes it worth going to. Bhagsu waterfall draws the same crowd from McLeod Ganj's main square, but arrive before noon and the place is a different experience entirely.
With Dalhousie and your travel in the pleasant hill stations, your experience of Himachal is more than just Dalhousie and the travel in the pleasant hill stations. In Dalhousie, you are welcomed with well-preserved old churches that are calm and serene, as well as winding, ancient roads.
Realistically, mountain roads make 135 kilometres feel longer than it sounds, with travel running three to four hours between the two towns. The package covers accommodation at each stop, every transfer, and all the sightseeing listed above.
