Getting to Chitkul from Delhi sounds like an adventure, and it genuinely is, but it's also more doable than most people assume. The route via Shimla and Rampur into the Kinnaur district has significantly better roads now, and the Sangla-Chitkul stretch, while narrow in places, is manageable in a good 4-wheel drive.

Chitkul, when you arrive, may seem small. It has maybe two hundred houses, a scattering of small eateries, a temple dedicated to the local deity Mathi, and one of the most spectacular river views you'll find anywhere in India. The air here is noticeably thinner and colder, even in summer. Carry a warm layer even in June.
