There's a reason pilgrims keep coming back to this particular stretch of Maharashtra year after year within a few hundred kilometres of each other sit three of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and very few operators manage to string them together without turning the trip into a marathon of highway driving. Our Bhimashankar Trimbakeshwar Grishneshwar tour package does exactly that, pacing the journey so the temples get the time they deserve and the road doesn't wear you out.

The trip opens at Bhimashankar, tucked into the Sahyadri hills roughly three hours from Pune. It's as much a forest retreat as a pilgrimage stop — the drive in climbs through the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, and the temple itself sits low and unassuming amid thick greenery, a contrast to the grandeur you might expect from a Jyotirlinga. From there, the route heads to Trimbakeshwar near Nashik, where the Godavari river is believed to originate at nearby Brahmagiri hill. The temple's black stone architecture and the ritual at the Kushavarta kund make this stop as much about atmosphere as devotion. The circuit closes at Grishneshwar, the smallest and, in some ways, the most understated of the twelve Jyotirlingas, standing at the foothills of Verul a stone's throw from the Ellora Caves, which we've built into the itinerary so you're not choosing between temple and heritage.

What makes this Jyotirlinga tour package worth booking through us rather than piecing together yourself is the sequencing. Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar and Grishneshwar aren't naturally in a straight line, and travellers who plan it on their own often end up backtracking across the state. We've routed it so the driving happens during the least crowded hours, darshan windows are timed to dodge the worst of the queues, and each night's stay is close enough to the next morning's temple that you're not losing half a day to transfers. We also build in an optional stop at Shirdi along the way, since it sits almost exactly between Trimbakeshwar and Grishneshwar.

This isn't a package built around ticking three names off a list. It's designed for people who want an unhurried Bhimashankar Trimbakeshwar Grishneshwar tour that still respects how physically demanding temple-hopping across Maharashtra's hill terrain can be proper meal breaks, comfortable overnight stays, and enough breathing room to actually take each place in.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Pune to Bhimashankar

Arrival Day
Pickup from your Pune hotel or the railway station is kept early, around 6 AM, because the road into the Sahyadris gets busy with day-trippers by mid-morning and we'd rather you have the ghat road to yourselves. The drive takes about three hours, winding up through Rajgurunagar and Ghodegaon before the forest closes in around you this whole stretch falls inside the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, so keep your camera handy for the occasional langur troop crossing the road. Once at Bhimashankar, we check you into your stay first so you can freshen up before darshan; the temple gets genuinely crowded by late morning on weekends, so we time the visit for whenever the queue is shortest that day, which our local guide tracks in real time. The Nag Phani viewpoint nearby is worth the short walk if you're not templed out yet it's one of the better sunset points in this part of the Sahyadris. Overnight stay at Bhimashankar.

Day 2 - Bhimashankar to Trimbakeshwar via Shirdi (optional)

Breakfast, then the road turns north toward Nashik roughly a five to six hour drive, so we break it into two legs with a proper lunch stop rather than rushing it. Travellers who want to include Shirdi can do so today, since the Sai Baba temple sits almost directly on this route; it adds about two hours but most guests tell us it's worth it. By late afternoon you'll reach Trimbakeshwar, one of the more architecturally striking Jyotirlingas, built from black stone with a distinctive tri-tiered structure. The temple sits at the base of Brahmagiri hill, considered the source of the Godavari, and if energy allows, a short visit to the Kushavarta kund rounds off the evening. Overnight stay in Trimbakeshwar or Nashik city, depending on availability.

Day 3 - Trimbakeshwar to Grishneshwar / Verul

Morning darshan at Trimbakeshwar is usually calmer than the previous evening, so we schedule it before checkout for those who'd rather have a second, quieter visit. From there it's a long but scenic drive toward Verul, close to Aurangabad, where the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga waits the smallest of the twelve, and arguably the most peaceful, since it draws fewer crowds than its more famous counterparts. Given that Grishneshwar sits practically at the entrance to the Ellora Caves complex, we've timed arrival so there's still daylight left to walk through a few of the major caves particularly Cave 16, the Kailasa temple, carved entirely out of a single rock face and genuinely one of the more astonishing things you'll see in Maharashtra. Overnight stay in Aurangabad or Verul.

Day 4 - Grishneshwar Darshan, Ellora Caves and Return to Pune

An early start gets you to Grishneshwar temple before the day's crowds build up, followed by breakfast and, for those who didn't finish the caves the previous evening, a couple more hours at Ellora. Around mid-morning, we begin the return drive to Pune it's a long haul, close to five hours, so we build in one comfortable stop for lunch along the highway. You'll be dropped back at your Pune hotel or the railway station by early evening, with three Jyotirlingas, a Sai Baba darshan if you opted in, and a UNESCO World Heritage cave complex covered in four unhurried days.
